TheQuestion: Is AKA taking a different direction??

From the onset AKA has always presented himself as an artist with a creative direction that is different from what is popular amongst his peers. His early hits -like Victory Lap and All I know- have always had a fresh flavour and a seemingly authentic sound. While some may argue this was due to the influence of IV League on his production, the trend of a unique sound has continued into his second album, Levels where of course he was no longer reliant on the production of IV League.

AKA has been able to develop a style and sound that we have all become accustomed to and indeed love. His ability to mix up-tempo dancy beats with strong lyrical content has endeared him both to the house cat and the avid rap fan. However his recent musical releases have made one question whether or not AKA is rebranding himself as an artist. "Rebranding" may be a big word but there is a subtle but noticeable change in the artistic direction AKA is opting for these days.

In the past the artist has expressed hopes of focusing more on doing stadium based shows or festivals as opposed to handling the "club scene". So it wouldn't be far-fetched to assume that this change in creative direction which AKA is currently undertaking coincides with his goal of doing more stadium based shows.

The question then becomes, what is this supposed change of creative direction? Well for now it's all speculation but based on his smash hit with Diamond Platnumz, his soon to be released One Time and to a lesser degree Baddest, it does seem as though AKA has taken more to singing than usual. Is this a bad thing?? Well that can be debated, while some may argue that this will affect his raps, others may feel that it’s a good change as long as the music stays fresh and relevant. It is no secret that when performing at stadiums, catchy and melodic anthems that are sung resonate very easily with a crowd. Knowing AKA, this possible change from hard raps to more melodic jams may be a part of his elaborate plan to grow his brand and expose himself to brand new audiences.
