THE NORMAL PERSON

The diversity which is celebrated in the world has had its impact on the society both negatively and positively. The creation of the topic of this paper THE NORMAL PERSON comes from this diversity and distilled from the superior to the inferior person. The adaptation of this paper is thus found through my experience and I aim to make the reader’s come to their own conclusion about what is normal, and can there be anyone who can point out what a “normal person” is and thus build their own meaning of normality.

People have been tagged as being “abnormal” or “normal,” and both these conclusions are through the understanding of the way the society views normality. Through my interaction with people from my community (University and hometown) I have picked up some of the ways of how a normal person is viewed. Note

  • A normal person is someone who obeys the rules and never try’s to go against them

  • A normal person is someone who thinks within their own vicinity and not far beyond

  • A normal person does things the same way as other people.

In a nutshell, obeying the rules set out by the society, from the dominant to the subordinate group makes you look normal. So now let’s look at what separates normality and abnormality.

  • Being abnormal is seen as going against rules

  • seeing things differently from others,

  • Thinking outside the box and going far beyond your limits.

Now if someone is spotted having one of the traits noted above then he is by far abnormal. The question that you should ask yourself is “is this really what it means to be normal or abnormal.” Is being normal the best thing and is being abnormal a bad thing? Who has the authority to judge who is normal or abnormal?

I feel like normality or being normal restrict humans from stretching their potential or their capabilities. This “Normality” is a chain that is bead by people and it tries by all means to draw them back and a lot of people brake this chain because they want change in their lives. Daily routines, sameness, and uniformity are all painted with the same normality brush. A lot of people who have agreed to be normal have never truly tried something new, explore and experience things far beyond their reach. The normal person hate the word “new” and “risk” (taken from the Animation movie called “THE CROODS” Please try and watch it) because for one to undertake in such events is thus abnormal. However it is funny enough that the most people who have been seen as being abnormal and crazy are the same people who own businesses today. Check out Mark Zuckerberg for instance, he has built Facebook which is a multi-billion dollar company from scratch and a lot of people recorded that he is somewhat of a freak which is a tag name for abnormal.

Mark CEO of Facebook is not the only successful person recorded as being abnormal, in fact the list goes on and on. If the world did not have the Wright brothers known as the first inventors of the airplane who were also recorded as being abnormal we would not have an aircraft today. As stated above the list goes on and on of people known as being abnormal and through that they have been able to build, design, invent and manufacture some of the top class goods in the world today. Rules, protocols, uniformity is something which is institutionalised by the society and through that a lot of people don’t try to test their abilities because that is an act of being abnormal.

I understand that there are levels in terms of abnormality but truly I don’t feel like there should be anyone who will define how people should act or behave because after all we all came in this world and got in touch with the ways of this world thus no one has the power to define normality than God.
